I want to leave my fear.
I want to leave in peace.
I want to leave my heartache.
I want to leave my dreams.
I want to be innocent like children.
I want to leave my shadow
walking aimlessly on the road.

I'm Not Here by Luis Cuauhtemoc Berriozabal
I’m not here
for no bullshit.
Let me leave.
You don’t need
to contact my
family.
They don’t have
to know I’m
locked up here.
Can’t you see
caterpillars
bit my toes?
This is why
I can’t walk. You
should know this.
I don’t want
my leg cut off.
When I die
I want to
meet my Maker
in one piece.
Keep your pills
away from me.
They’re poison.
for no bullshit.
Let me leave.
You don’t need
to contact my
family.
They don’t have

locked up here.

Insignificance by Luis Cuauhtemoc Berriozabal
When I feel small, like a grain of sand, I am insignificant.
When I grow tired of my insignificance I imagine I am tall,
rising over mountains. I usually end up sinking into a vast
sea. Loaded up on medicine, I can barely keep my small
eyes open. I drown in a sea of sand.

Moonless Sky by Luis Cuauhtemoc Berriozabal
It is dark out.
The moonless sky
is without comment.
I talk to it
about its silence.
It is quiet.
I talk about
the sky without eyes.
At night the moon
is the eye in the sky.
In the dark
the moonless sky
is without sight.
The moonless sky
is without comment.
I talk to it
about its silence.
It is quiet.
I talk about

is the eye in the sky.
In the dark

Dreams: Luis Cuauhtemoc Berriozabal
THE BOOK OF ABSURD DREAMS
The bird of wisdom carries the words
I speak in my sleep
across the sea,
who recite the words to a man who looks like me.
My double takes my words to his grave.
They become a book
in his coffin.
My double’s corpse is ravaged by worms.
One of the worms ends
up in a bird’s gut.
This bird flies across the sea reciting the words
from the book of
my double’s corpse.
I dream of the absurdity of such a book.

Unfortunate Creature by Luis Cuauhtemoc Berriozabal
You're dangerous, planning
to strike in darkness
like some scorpion fiend.
You're like a small bird,
hidden behind leaves.
I can't trust you.
You hide yourself in a clam.
But you're hardly a pearl.
Your mouth has thousands of teeth
sharp as guillotines.
I can't bear to look.
Unfortunately, we have
arrived at the same place.
You're like a sheep
following me everywhere.
I hate the herd mentality.
I want to rush out to the slaughterhouse
and end it all.
You gut me or I gut you.
Everyone in the world
has his anti-hero, his mortal enemy.
Who can I thank
for your presence
in the world?
You are lathered in blood.
Red and purple grapes
are being crushed in those fatal teeth
of yours.
You're an unfortunate creature.
I can only find faults in you.
